Last month, Dr. Jennifer van de Ligt joined global PR agency Weber Shandwick and Dairy Management Inc. (DMI) for a regional crisis drill hosted by the American Dairy Association North East in Harrisburg, PA. With a focus on food defense, the traveling drill is a part of the dairy industry’s ongoing crisis preparedness and readiness work. As part of the two-day drill, Dr. van de Ligt presented on food defense and “Protecting Your Lunch,” participated on a panel of four about food protection and a facilitated a skill-building session focused on the FSMA IA Rule. On day two Dr. van de Ligt served as a resource and knowledge hub during a full-blown crisis simulation led by Weber Shandwick that played out through fictional videos, news articles and real-time social media feeds. Nearly 70 participants attended the drill with representatives from all facets of the dairy supply chain including farmers, cooperatives, processors, regional and national checkoff partners and various government agencies. Dr. van de Ligt also presented at a similar drill in Phoenix, AZ this past October and has provided valuable insight as the scenario was developed and is continually modified.
