Providing Opportunities for the Nation’s Future Emergency Response Workforce

Wednesday, April 5, 2017

Providing opportunities for the nation’s future emergency response workforce is a priority for FPDI. Working in conjunction with Saint Paul Public School District Career and Technical Education Teachers in association with Emergency Responders in Minneapolis Minnesota, FPDI hosted a food defense hazardous response tabletop exercise (TTX) on March 22, 2017.

This exercise presented a challenging food defense scenario for which emergency responders had to create response plans and identify opportunities for improving food defense security. Forty high school students observed and took notes, concerning food defense response practices, as emergency responders talked through procedures, asked questions, and thought through response and collaboration protocols.

The TTX provided high school students with a better understanding of what it means to be a food defender, as well as knowledge and awareness of associated STEM career pathways associated with hazardous response occupations.
